Olympic medallist Mirabai Chanu wins 'BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year' award

Guwahati, March 29: Tokyo Olympics silver medal winner Saikhom Mirabai Chanu on Monday won the BBC Indian Sportswoman Of The Year award 2021.
Chanu who created history last year by becoming the first Indian weightlifter to clinch a silver medal at the Summer Olympics, beat golfer Aditi Ashok, boxer Lovlina Borgohain, Para-shooter Avani Lekhara, and badminton player PV Sindhu to the award.
Chanu is currently undergoing training in the United States of America. In a media release, she assured that she will give her best to win gold at this year's Asian and Commonwealth Games. She further expressed gratitude to BBC India for the honour.
Chanu became the first Indian weightlifter to win a silver medal at an Olympic Games. She finished second in the 49-kg category in Tokyo Olympics.
