Guwahati, July 27: Assam's Lovlina Borgohain has won her first bout at the Olympics on Tuesday in the 69kg weight category. She defeated her German opponent Nadine Apetz by 3-2 in a split decision.
The Golaghat born pugilist is the first female athlete from Assam to represent the country in the Olympics.
Now, if she wins her next match, a medal will be confirmed.
Lovlina has already proved her worth at the global arena by winning two back to back world championships in 2018 and 2019. She won bronze on both occasions.
