NEW DELHI, May 27 � State BJP president and Lok Sabha MP Sarbananda Sonowal has been given the charge of Youth Affairs and Sports (Independent Charge), Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, while Kiren Rijiju has been made the Minister of State for Home Affairs.
The surprise appointment was that of General (Retd) VK Singh as the next Minister of State (Independent Charge) in charge of the North East.
While Rijiju is expected to join his new assignment on May 29, Gen VK Singh is likely to join tomorrow.
�I seek the blessings of the people of Assam. This is my first day and hope that I would receive full cooperation of the people. Along with Sports and Youth Welfare, I have also been given Entrepreneurship and Skill Development, and therefore, is tremendous scope for youth and entrepreneurs of the North-east.
The Ministry of Entrepreneurship has been hived off from the Ministry of Finance, and Skill Development from the Ministry of Labour. Sonowal said that he received a call this afternoon from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports following which he decided to join today itself.
