MANGALDAI, Oct 29 - Noted sports organiser and sports pensioner of the State Biren Medhi was honoured on the occasion of his 80th birth anniversary in a befitting manner here on Sunday.
In a felicitation function, organised by the Darrang District Sports Journalist Association in collaboration with the Mangaldai Sports Association at Mangaldai Stadium, the octogenarian was feted by organisations like Mangaldai Sports Association, Darrang District Sports Journalists Association, Darrang Masters Athletics Association, Darrang Zila Sahitya Sabha, Mangaldai Club, Mangaldai Unit of SBI Pensioners� Association, Mangaldai Chambers of Commerce, Dimakuchi Sports Association, ABSU Dimakuchi Unit, Mangaldai Youth Club, Mangaldai United Club, Mangaldai Town Club, AJYCP, Darrang District Unit, Chapai Yuva Kalyan Kendra, among others. The felicitation function was followed by cutting of the birthday cake presented by the SRD Group of Companies.
A prize-money half marathon for men from Kalaigaon in Udalguri district to Chapai Nehru Maidan of Mangaldai was also organised during the occasion. Rajib Baruah of Bhuktabari, Sipajhar bagged the first prize followed by Hannan Ali of Bandiya, Mangaldai and Rudreswar Deka of Bishnupur, Sipajhar respectively.
A souvenir Sira Tarun was published to mark the occasion.
