GUWAHATI, July 23 - Harmohan Kalita, the Assistant Liasion Officer of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare died at his Panjabari residence here this morning, he was 59.
He was seriously ill for the last couple of months.
A keen sportsman and organiser, Kalita had accompanied State school teams to various national level tournaments as official. He was the team manager of the Arya Vidyapith HS School football team which won the Subroto Cup in 1992. He was also led the Assam school team next year as manager which became national champions.
He was very active in official duty due to which he was loved and respected by all the colleagues and senior officers of the Directorate. His death cast a pall of gloom in the Panjabari area and his office as a large number of his well wishers poured in to pay their last respect.
The body was placed at the Directorate of Sports before taking to his native village at Nalbari where last rites were performed. Apart from the officers and employees of the Directorate, floral tributes were paid to Kalita by the Sadau Asam Karmachari Parishad, State Level Advisory Committee for Sports and Youth Welfare, Abhiruchi Sports Day Organising Committee, SAI, Assam Sports Journalists Association.
He leaves behind his wife, one daughter and a son along with a host of well-wishers, friends and followers.
