The North-Eastern states of India are beautiful and the Seven Sister states have a charm that is out of this world. Out of all the seven states, the most famous and most visited one is the state of Assam. People from both India and from other countries love to visit Assam for its beauty, for its vibrant sceneries, for the wildlife, and for many others.


While you are in Assam, there are plenty of things to do and plenty of things to see. So, for that, we will be having a look at some of the things that you must do when visiting Assam:

1. Wildlife Safari

One of the reasons why the state of Assam is so famous is because of the diverse and abundant wildlife present in the state. The state has rich biodiversity and it is home to a number of different animals and birds. It has jungles, grasslands, wetlands which are home to 5 wildlife sanctuaries and national parks.


While you are in Assam, you should definitely visit one of the wildlife sanctuaries, out of which the most famous one is Kaziranga. The special thing about Kaziranga sanctuary is that it is home to one-horned rhinoceros which are very rare in the country and it is one of the few places where you can see these animals in their natural habitat.

2. Wildlife River Cruises

If you want to try out something unique and different then you can experience and see the wildlife sanctuaries by taking a cruise down the famous Brahmaputra River. The river cruises are run between the national parks of Kaziranga & Manas and these cruises run for a period of 4-14 nights so, you can choose the cruise that you find most suitable for yourself.

3. Enjoy The Bihu Festival

The festival of Bihu or harvest festival is celebrated three times a year in Assam and if you find yourself to be visiting Assam during the time of Bihu then you would absolutely love the place. The harvest festival or Bihu lasts for an entire week and it is accompanied by people singing, dancing, arranging bonfire gatherings, along with sports & traditional games, buffalo fights, and a feast of delicious foods and traditional sweets. Whenever you visit Assam during the time of Bihu, make sure that you have got enough time to enjoy all of these activities.

If you have visited Assam and you have not visited the Tea Gardens and Tea Fields of the state then what have you ever done while you were there? Tea is the most famous product of Assam and it produces some of the finest teas in the world that are exported all over the world every year. For tea lovers, this is a place that you must visit to see the beautiful hilly landscape blooming with tea plants.


Every year, the annual Tea Festival also takes place at Jorhat in the month of November. Tea tasting is an integral part of the festival along with visits to tea estates, heritage sites, and some local food festivals.

6. Go On Culinary Adventures

While you are visiting Assam, make sure that you go on Culinary Adventures and try out the local cuisines of the state. The staple food of the state is Rice, so you will find rice in almost every dish. The characteristics of Assamese food include simple preparation, light spices, fermentation, and unique tastes. Along with rice, fish and leafy vegetables are found in many of the local cuisines.

Going out shopping in Assam isn't too bad either. You will find silk sarees, Assamese teas, handmade goods, bamboo goods, and some other local handicrafts that would make great souvenirs from Assam.
