By CITY CORRESPONDENT

GUWAHATI, Aug 14 - Dispur will publish the advertisement for the special recruitment drive for persons with disabilities within September 30, a copy of the action plan for the recruitment drive, made public by the Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha, Assam today, stated.

In Assam, 4,419 posts reserved for persons with disabilities are lying vacant in various State government departments. As per the action plan, the last date for submission of application form for the recruitment drive is October 22. Moreover, data entry of application forms, issuance of call letters and completion of tests or interviews for the posts, finalisation and approval of list of appointment will be completed within December 30.

The action plan is based on the decision taken at a meeting Social Welfare Minister Pramila Rani Brahma and high officials had with representatives of Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha, Dristihin Parishad and Dristihin Chatra Sanstha on August 2.

The State government had arranged the meeting after a massive protest carried out by differently-abled persons of the State at Dispur on July 27 on various demands. Many protesters were injured during scuffles with security personnel.

At the meeting, the representatives of the organisations demanded that the recruitment process be carried out under the aegis of the social welfare department and persons registered with special employment exchanges be allowed to apply. They had also said that during the recruitment drive, more marks should be given to those who are older or have higher degrees of disability and that the application process should be only in the offline mode.

Other demands of the organisations were upgradation of the Blind School, Guwahati to a full-fledged college and establishment of a university for persons with disabilities, free medical treatment and upgradation of the Braille press in Guwahati to enable it to print in the Assamese language.

It is very good news for the persons with disabilities of the State. But I also want to warn all not to pay money to any middleman for government jobs. The entire process of recruitment drive will start only after publication of the notification. So all should follow the notification concerned, Nripen Malakar, secretary of Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha said.

It may be noted that the Sangstha had submitted the draft for the recruitment drive to the Principal Secretary of the social welfare department in April.
