AGARTALA, June 11 - With the Tripura Assembly elections round the corner, a special drive giving focus on first time electors in the age group of 18 to 21 will be conducted from July 1 to July 31 next in the State, according to official sources.
Prior to launch of the special drive, the month of June shall be utilised for preparatory works such as identification of gaps in the polling stations with relatively less enrolment during the summry revision, said Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sriram Tarinikant at a press conference at Civil Secretariat here on Friday.
He said during the special drive, the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will carry the Form-6 so that it can be filled on the spot by the un-enrolled voters. In course of the process, all citizens will be eligible to submit forms as usual in Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) office, through BLOs, on-line submission and by post too, he said.
On Friday, I had a meeting with representatives of all recognised political parties and sought their cooperation to ensure that no eligible voter is left unenrolled in the electoral rolls, he said.
During the meeting, representatives of political parties raised some issues related to the electoral rolls. Shifting voters and duplication in the electoral rolls also came up for discussion. The Election Commission will apply technology to identify duplicate voters in the electoral rolls to ensure error-free photo electoral rolls, he said. As of now, the State has 25,05,906 electors as on January 1, 2017. The State is scheduled to go for Assembly elections early next year.
