GUWAHATI, May 21 - In what could be a rare spectacle, more than 100 popular spiritual gurus from across the country, including Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and yoga guru Baba Ramdev, are expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Government at Dispur to be held on May 24.
Top BJP sources told this reporter that a separate enclosure will be constructed for the spiritual gurus adjacent to the enclosure of the senior Ministers of the Central Government and party leaders at the College of Veterinary Science playground, Khanapara, the venue fixed for the ceremony. In all, there will be three enclosures for the invitees.
The list of the spiritual gurus has been finalised by the partys top leadership in New Delhi, sources told this reporter.
Sources also said that the invitations have already been served and at least one hundred of them have confirmed their attendance.
The final list of invitees will be issued a day before. We have already intimated the district administration about the requirements in this regard, sources pointed out.
This is for the first time that such a huge contingent of spiritual gurus, including those from Assam, will be seen in attendance in a Government function in Assam.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi too is also scheduled to attend the oath-taking ceremony, besides Chief Ministers of a number of States, diplomats based in neighbouring countries and partys national president Amit Shah and senior Ministers of the National Democratic Alliance Government.
Meanwhile, official sources said that the exact number of VIP and VVIPs, who are scheduled to make it to the event, is still not known although it is being speculated that around 250 dignitaries will witness the event.
