With the reverberating sound of dhol in the atmosphere, the entire State is ready to welcome the festival and plunge in its grandeur.

Traditionally, Rongali Bihu starts from the last day of the month of Chaitra and the first Bihu, called the Goru Bihu dedicated to cattle, would be celebrated tomorrow. On the occasion, cows are taken to the local ponds, washed and worshipped. This would be followed by Manuh Bihu, the next day.

Various competitions of Bihu song, husori, Bihu dance, folk instruments and also some sports competitions among the youth would be organised in every nook and corner of the State. With pageants like Bihu konwari, Bihu rani etc., gaining popularity in the State, many of the Bihu function organising committees hold such programmes to encourage the young talents as well as ensure maximum footfalls at the venue. The Bihu committees also rope in popular artistes for musical nights and cultural extravaganza.
