GUWAHATI, July 9 - Women�s rights group North East Network (NEN) has demanded a speedy investigation into the alleged rape and murder of a teacher of Balipara Krishak Mukti High School in Udalguri, who was found dead on July 7.
The organisation has also demanded a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the victim�s family under the Assam Victim Compensation Scheme, 2012, vide the order of the Governor of Assam, dated February 1, 2019.
In a memorandum to the Udalguri Superintendent of Police, the organisation strongly condemned the brutal incident and demanded an immediate and impartial inquiry into it.
�It is a gross violation of women�s human rights. Realising the gravity of the offence, we demand an immediate inquiry into the matter so that the accused is arrested without further delay and booked for exemplary punishment,� NEN State director Anurita Hazarika and NEN community mobiliser of Udalguri, Dipali Bora stated.
