Speeding truck runs down Silchar journalist

SILCHAR, July 29: Malin Sharma, reporter of a local electronic media channel, was killed in a road accident around 11 pm on Sunday. He was 43.

Sharma is survived by his wife, and a daughter.

According to sources, Sharma was on his way home after covering an event at Rotary Club here when he was hit by a speeding truck near Tarapur police outpost.

With severe injuries to his head, Sharma was found dead on the spot, sources added.

The accidental death of Sharma, known for his polite and generous behaviour among his colleagues, has been mourned by one and all across Barak Valley. He was working with the local channel for nearly 20 years.

Meanwhile, scribes from different organisations are on protest demanding action against rash driving by trucks which ply through the roads of the town after 9 pm when 'No Entry' restrictions for heavy vehicles are relaxed.

Meanwhile, police sent Sharma's body to SMCH for post mortem.
