Specially-abled students, other children together take part in Inclusive Sports Day

DULIAJAN, Nov 23 - Mrinaljyoti Rehabilitation Centre at Duliajan, which has engaged itself for the empowerment of Persons with Disabilities since 1999, celebrated the �Inclusive Sports Day� on Friday with the motto to create a society of equal rights for all.

On the occasion, various inclusive sports like wheelchair race, 100-metre race, throw the ball, friendly football match, pick the sweets etc., were held where more than 150 students of ten schools from Duliajan and Naharkatia of Dibrugarh district participated along with children with disabilities of Mrinaljyoti at the Duliajan Nehru Maidan.

Former national-level footballer, Ramesh Phookan was present on the occasion as the chief guest of the sports day. In his speech, Phukan said that sports helps to build a nation. He added that participation of the specially-abled children in sports events along with the children without disabilities, was a great sign of a newly-born inclusive society. RAISE-NE Project of Mrinaljyoti which has been working to promote inclusive education and to create an inclusive society in North-East India has taken the initiative to organise the Inclusive Sports Day and Community Based Rehabilitation Project of Mrinaljyoti gave it the necessary support.

At the end, prizes were distributed among the winners of the various sports events. The secretary-cum-principal of Mrinaljyoti Rehabilitation Centre, Amiya Pathak Borpujari thanked every one for helping to celebrate the Day successfully and hoped to create an inclusive society where all persons can live with equal rights and dignity. Debismita Bora, superintendent, Mrinaljyoti Children Home anchored the programme.
