NORTH LAKHIMPUR, March 26 - Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday assured a special package for Lakhimpur LAC if the Congress candidate, Dr Joy Prakash Das wins in the ensuing Assembly polls from here. Gogoi was addressing a huge poll rally here in North Lakhimpur for the Congress.

Campaigning for the Congress party, the Chief Minister said that Dr Joy Prakash Das was an efficient and promising youth who could bring the much needed change in the constituency for its development. He came down heavily on ticket discard Ghana Buragohain for his decision to contest the polls as an Independent candidate from Lakhimpur LAC. Forecasting his massive defeat in the elections, Gogoi said that the party workers of the Congress were not the personal workers of any person and regretted that Buragohain should have assisted the Congress candidate instead of acting as a dissident for the polls.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi also criticised the Modi Government at the Centre for failing to bring the much-hyped Achche Din despite being in power for two years. He said that the Central Government had failed in checking price rise, unemployment and the promise of providing Rs 15 lakh to all account holders of an insurance scheme. Referring to BJPs chief ministerial candidate Sarbananda Sonowal, Gogoi said that how could he deliver the promises for Assam when the Prime Minister had already failed to do so. Gogoi also remarked that the State BJP was presently under the spell of ominous Shani as his ex-Cabinet colleague Himanta Biswa Sarma had joined them. The Chief Minister also wondered how Himantas television channel could project him in a bad light when the same channel had eulogised him in the past.

The poll rally was also addressed by the Congress candidate for the 111-Lakhimpur LAC seat, Dr Joy Prakash Das. He said that he had vision of transforming Lakhimpur to a position where every household would have minimum educational qualification up to graduation by 2030.

Meanwhile, the wife of AGP candidate Utpal Dutta, Binu Dutta Hazarika has filed an FIR against Congress rebel candidate Ghana Buragohain for maligning the image of her daughter in a press meet on Thursday night. She filed the FIR at North Lakhimpur Police Station against Buragohain for his allegation that the matrimonial bond of Utpal Duttas daughter with Ranee Narahs son had cost him the Congress party ticket.

Our Jonai Correspondent adds: Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, on Friday said that he would grant a special package for infrastructure development in Jonai constituency if his party comes to power.

Addressing a mammoth gathering at Akajan High School playground in 114-Jonai(ST) LAC, Gogoi said that the Congress Government in the State granted autonomous council to various tribal communities to ensure equal development. Claiming that Congress is the only political party to help the poor and needy people, Gogoi said that his government has implemented schemes for the economic uplift of the rural people, besides taking up various welfare schemes for the women folk.

Gogoi, assured of granting a special package for the development of the constituency if his party retains power in this election.

Criticising the BJP Government at the Centre, Gogoi said that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi had no time to look back on the people of Assam during floods, but is now moving to and fro here for election campaign.

APCC general secretary, Babul Sonowal, Congress candidate Sushil Pegu and Block Congress Committee presidents of the constituency were also present in the meeting.
