By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 21 - Noted academician and former principal of Cotton College professor Udayaditya Bharali will deliver a special lecture on the roles played by Cotton College and Uma Sarma in the Indian freedom struggle at the Sudmersen Hall of Cotton University here at 3 pm on June 23.

The lecture is being organised by the Uma Sarma Birth Centenary Celebration Committee. Celebration Committee president Dr Hiren Gohain will preside over the function.

It needs to be mentioned that in December 1941, Uma Sarma, the then general secretary of the Cotton College Union Society (CCUS), led a students stir against the bids of the colonial British rulers to drag India into the World War-II without the approval of the Indian people.

The World War-II, also called the Second World War, started in 1939 and lasted till 1945.

The Celebration Committee has also undertaken an initiative to publish selected writings of the late Sarma.
