TURA, Oct 27 - Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has said that the 20 most underperforming schools in Garo Hills will conduct special classes for their students in order to bring these schools at par with other in the State.
�Garo Hills has an average pass percentage in the SSLC Examinatios. After much deliberation and discussion with the concerned officials, we have decided to identify 20 most underperforming schools in the region where special classes will be conducted, especially for the students who will be appearing in the SSLC Examination,� Conrad said on Saturday after inaugurating the new building of Wadanang Secondary School, Tura.
Stating that most of the schools have a four-month-long break during winters soon after which the students appear in their examinations, Conrad said that this may be one of the reasons for their poor performance.
He suggested that the special classes should be conducted during this break.
The Chief Minister also informed that several measures are being planned to improve the education scenario in the region so that the students could utilise the facilities properly and derive maximum benefit from them.
It may be noted that the new building of Wadanang Secondary School, Tura was constructed under �Supporting Human Capital Development Project in Meghalaya� funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
He said the project is not only a blessing for the students and the people of Wadanang locality or Garo Hills but for the entire Meghalaya.
Conrad said this is the appropriate time to thank all the people who were instrumental in bringing the project and implementing it successfully.
This project focuses on improving the secondary education, infrastructure and skill development. Under this project, scores of government-aided secondary and higher secondary schools of the State are being upgraded with better infrastructure, which would improve the overall learning environment for the students. So far, around 14 schools have benefitted from this project.
