By STAFF Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 7 - Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit has advocated the need for integrating the differently-abled children into the mainstream of the society as they constitute a sizeable pool of human resources of the State, said an official press release issued here today.

Speaking at the 31st Foundation Day of the Sahayika Sishu Nirdeshan Kendra, Guwahati at Rabindra Bhawan here on Wednesday evening, Governor Purohit hailed the efforts of the Sishu Nirdeshan Kendra which has been working with passion and dedication since 1986 for the welfare of the differently-abled children in the State.

Acknowledging the role of the teachers and other support staff of the Sishu Nirdeshan Kendra, Purohit said, It is for their selfless service and dedication, the differently-abled children are given the right to education and a life of dignity.

Referring to the teachings of the Vaishnavite saints Sankardeva and Madhavdeva, Purohit said these saints thought of a society where everybody gets a chance to lead a dignified life and the role being played by the Sahayika Sishu Nirdeshan Kendra in bringing the differently-abled children into the mainstream reflects the teachings of these two great saints.

It is to be noted that the Sishu Nirdeshan Kendra is a non-profit organisation, which is running a school and vocational guidance centre for persons with intellectual disabilities like autism and hearing and speech impairment.

Sahayika Sishu Nirdeshan Kendra president Subodh Sharma, eminent journalist DN Bezbaruah, Assam Institute of Managements former director Shantikam Hazarika, along with a host of other dignitaries, were also present at the function.
