Special cager honoured

GUWAHATI, Dec 2 - The Basketball Association of Assam (BAA) today felicitated physically challenged basketball player Rohit Upadhaaya who performed brilliantly in the Sub Junior National Basketball Championship held in Rajasthan recently. He scored 30 points for Assam against the normal players. The Basketball Federation of India (BFI) also felicitated Rohit for his encouraging show in the meet and offered Rs 3000. The BFI also decided to call Rohit to the Indian camp for the Special Olympics.

BAA president Pulak Goswami offered Rs 3000 to Rohit today and promised all possible help to the player who is studying at KV Narengi.

The BAA secretary Mukut Medhi said in the felicitation function that Rohit has been a source of encouragement for the other players who plays like a normal player on the court utilising his speed, technique and other skills. His coach Bimal Choudhury informed that, Rohit has everything as other good players have. He is very much sincere and committed to the game. He may be selected for the Indian special team in the coming days.

Sr ID basketball in city: The Guwahati Sports Association, in collaboration with BAA will host the 34th Senior Inter District Basketball Championship in the RG Baruah Sports Complex here from January 9 to 12. The championship will be named after former BAA and GSA official Chaitanya Kumar Das. Altogether 12 men�s and 8 women�s teams will vie for the titles in the meet, informed GSA president Munin Nobis. A clinic for referees will also be organised during the meet, informed BAA official Rajib Sarma.
