�Speaker�s Initiative� lauded by Karbi people

DIPHU, Oct 12 - The Karbi Anglong-North Cachar Hills Autonomous State Demand Committee, socio-political organisations and its associates lauded State Assembly Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami for initiating a discussion on the topic of socio-economic development of the autonomous hills district of Assam on September 26 and subsequently convening the session again on October 5 last at the Assam Legislative Assembly.

The KANCHASDCOM, Karbi Students� Association (KSA), Karbi Riso Adorbar (KRA), Karbi So Arlo Amei and Karbi Unemployed Youth Association through a joint press statement mentioned that it was the first-ever initiative under the new clause �Speaker�s Initiative� where representatives of the social organisations and social workers of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao Autonomous Hills Districts, both ruling and Opposition parties MLAs of other districts of Assam could articulate their opinion on the issue in the aforementioned special sessions of the Assembly.

�We offer our heartfelt gratitude to 5 MLAS from the two hills districts who include Bhadra Hagjer, Dr Numal Momin, Joyram Engleng, Dr Mansing Rongpi and HAD Minister Sum Ronghang for taking part in the special session and expressed their opinions on the said problems about the socio-economic uplift and its related problem regarding Article 244 (A) of the Indian Constitution favouring immediate implementation,� the statement mentioned.

The organisations also thanked all the MLAs belonging to both the Opposition and ruling party for taking part in the session and expressing their opinions on the trouble-torn hills districts. They also thanked the Government for its initiative and urged it to impress upon the Centre to implement Article 244 (A) of the Constitution for socio-economic development of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao autonomous districts.
