Speaker calls all-party meet over alleged Budget speech leak

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 7 - Concerned over the alleged leak of the Budget speech before it was presented in the Assembly, Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami has convened a meeting of leaders of all legislature parties and also the Law & Justice and Parliamentary Affairs ministers to ensure that such incidents do not happen again.

After the issue was raised in the House today by Opposition leader Debabrata Saikia who sought an all-party probe, Goswami said that in the age of digital transformation, cyber security has become very important.

We must appreciate the initiative of the Finance Minister to introduce the e-Budget in the State. The e-Vidhan project is being implemented across the country to make the legislative assemblies paperless, he said.

The Speaker, however, admitted that the people eagerly wait for the Budget and obviously they will object if it is leaked ahead of the presentation.

Though it is not a breach of privilege we must find measures to ensure that it is not repeated. I will sit with the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Law and Justice Minister and leaders of all legislature parties and discuss the issue, the Speaker said.
