Speaker asks Govt to move Centre

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 9 Assembly Speaker Pranab Gogoi today asked the State government to move the Centre to ascertain whether it (State government) had any prior information regarding the jailbreak by a mob at Dimapur in Nagaland, which led to the ghastly killing of a rape accused from Assam - as alleged by a ruling Congress member.

The Speaker gave his ruling following a ruckus in the Assembly during which Opposition members including AR Khan (AIUDF), Rafikul Islam (AIUDF), Phanibhushan Choudhury (AGP) and Padma Hazarika (AGP) demanded of the government to clarify with a statement whether the allegation of Congress MLA Siddique Ahmed charging Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi with inaction even after having prior information about an imminent jail attack at Dimapur.

The Speaker also said that in the event of the Congress MLA making a false allegation, action should be initiated against him. Write to the Centre to ascertain the veracity of the MLAs allegation. And if it is false, take action on him, he said.
