South Point trounce DPS for title

GUWAHATI, Oct 30 - South Point School lifted the Sitaram Agarwala Memorial Trophy with a 84-run victory against Delhi Public School (DPS) in the final of the U-16 Inter School Cricket Tournament.

In the final played at the Nehru Stadium here today, South Point piled up a challenging 229 all out in 46.4 overs in the 50-over encounter. Manish Kr Bharti top scored with 70 while Riyan Parag, Sayan Dey and Sushank Bora contributed 35, 28 and 21 respectively. Chasing the tough target DPS boys failed to take the pressure and were all out for 145 in 38.1 overs.

Sayan Dey of South Point received the best player of the tournament award while Hrishikesh Das of DPS got the best batsman trophy. DhrubaRaaj Bora of South Point and Ayushman Pal of Sarala Birla were picked as best bowler and best fielder of the tournament respectively. The champion team became richer by Rs 30,000 while the runners-up team was presented Rs 20,000.

In the closing function, donors Dibya Chowcharia, Ratan Sharma, former Ranji players Gautam Hazarika, Pritom Konwar, Mukut Das and Riazul Haq were present as guests. The championship was organised by the Bud Cricket Club.
