South Kamrup district inaugurated

MIRZA, March 1 - The Parliamentary Secretary and MLA of Chhaygaon LAC, Rekibuddin Ahmed, inaugurated the newly-constituted South Kamrup district at Chhaygaon on Monday.

Addressing the gathering of over 5,000 people in the open meeting held by Kamrup district administration at Chhaygaon, Ahmed said that the long- cherished dream of the people of South Kamrup has come true.

�Today is the historic day and the real credit goes to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi who has declared South Kamrup as a new district on January 26,� he said.

Ahmed said that people of the South Kamrup, including Palasbari, Chhayagon and Boko LACs, would be greatly benefited from the new district (South Kamrup) as the new district would be located close to their home and the people of South Kamrup would have opportunities to get all district offices including the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, Joint Director of Health, Social Welfare etc., at their doorsteps which will help them save money and time.

�Our aim is to ensure peace, security, unity and progress in the new South Kamrup district and we will continue to provide our helping hand to the people,� he said. Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup district, Vinod Seshan, thanked the State Government and the Parliamentary Secretary, Rekibuddin Ahmed, saying that it was a memorable day for the people of South Kamrup district and he assured that the Kamrup district administration would extend its helping hand for faster transfer of powers and files.

New Deputy Commissioner of South Kamrup district, Rajiv Prakash Baruah, said that he would serve the people of the district impartially, adding that South Kamrup district administration has started functioning from today.

Joining duty as the DC of the new district, he said that the Chhaygaon Revenue Circle Office would be used as temporary headquarters of South Kamrup district. The new SP of South Kamrup district, Prasanta Saikia, said that his police force would be alert round the clock to give security to the people.

The meeting was also addressed by social worker Nripen Thakuria, new SDO (Civil) of South Kamrup Gautam Majumdar, principals of Chhaygaon, Boko and DK Girls� College Raju Bordoloi, Nripen Goswamee and Gajendra Adhikari, respectively, among others.
