South India literary fest to focus on NE

SHILLONG, July 21 - A three-day literary festival of South India Writers� Ensemble (SIWE) to be held at Chengannur, Kerala from July 24 would focus on writers from the North East.

The 2015 edition of the festival is being organised by People for Performing Arts and More (PAMPA) and would feature a number of top writers from the region.

�Every year, SIWE concentrates on a specific region of the country to understand and promote the unique culture of the region. This year, emphasis has been given to the literature of the North East,� a statement said.

Some of the writers from the region who would take part in the literary festival include: Kynpham Singh Nongkynrih, Streamlet Dkhar, Mitra Phukan, Robin S Ngangom, Apurba Saikia, Ananya S Guha, Jahnavi Barua, Nitoo Das, Anupama Basumatary, Jiban Narah, Dhruba Hazarika and Vishu Rita Krocha.

Mitra Phukan said: �It is wonderful that the focus of SIWE 2015 is on the writers of the North East. It is a huge country with diverse cultures and all of us have so much to learn from each other, understand each other�s literature.�

Apart from the writers from the NE, writers from across India and abroad would also participate in the event. The festival will also include a writers� workshop conducted by American novelist, George Bishop.

Another feature of the festival is cultural events showcasing different theatrical forms of Kerala and film screenings. As part of the festival, a book containing English translations of all the works discussed in the festival will be published.
