South Garo Hills to get infrastructure upgrade

BAGHMARA, June 3 - After decades of neglect, the South Garo Hills (SGH) district may finally get a much needed infrastructure boost after more than 20 road projects worth over Rs 200 crore being earmarked for the district. MLA of Siju-Rongara, Rakkam Sangma said that the proposed 7th MLP battalion would be based in the district head quarter Baghmara.

�I met Meghalaya Home Minister James PK Sangma in his chamber and submitted a request to consider Baghmara as the headquarter of the proposed 7th MLP Battalion, to which he agreed,� said Rakkam.

The new battalion headquarter is expected to be lodged at Masighat Lotnagar/Gittingre in Baghmara.

The MLA also added that projects under PMGSY, RIDF, CRF, etc., worth over Rs 200 crore were sanctioned for the 2018-19 financial year. This includes an impetus to tourism and other sectors.
