GUWAHATI, June 26 � The SOS Children�s Village, Guwahati celebrated SOS Day on June 23 along with the rest of the world with much enthusiasm. The day began with a traditional welcome to the guests, with garlanding and floral tribute to Dr Hermann Gmeiner�s bust followed by cultural programme, exhibition of paintings made by children and distribution of prizes to children who have done well in academics and other activities.

The celebration was attended by over 250 including the children, mothers, employees, participants from SOS Children�s Village Begusarai and Bhubaneshwar who had come for the 3-day long sports meet.

The occasion was also attended by Assam Power Distribution Company Limited general manager Bikash Barpujari as guest of honour, while SDO, APDCL, Dr Duria Dutta and Dhiraj Hazarika were among the distinguished guests. Zonal Director � East of SOS Children�s Village of India, Shailesh Kumar Singh described the life of Dr Gmeiner. A guided tour of the children�s village and the evening prayer were memorable for the visitors.

An international NGO working actively for the last 66 years with the motto of providing a secured and loving home to children without parental care and at the risk of abandonment, all over the world, SOS Children�s Village is the brainchild of Dr Hermann Gmeiner, an Austrian who came up with the concept of bringing up abandoned and children without parental care with love, respect, security and a loving home with a mother and a secure sense of a sibling relationship providing them with emotional security for a lifetime.
