Sootea MLA opens plantation drive

JAMUGURIHAT, Nov 30 - Jagaran Youth Club (JYC), an eco-friendly club of Jamugurihat has undertaken some innovative measures to protect the surrounding environment for the last couple of years. With this mission, the JYC has carried out many activities including plantation drives, awareness camps among the common masses. The youth club has decided to plant saplings near the village roads under Jamugurihat once a week.

Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika, inaugurated a plantation drive at Nandikeshar, Jamugurihat on Sunday. The Jagaran Youth Club has taken the initiative to plant trees on both sides of the 2 kilometre-long Nandikeshar road which links the historic Nandikeshar temple. Hazarika praised the environment-friendly initiative taken up by the club to protect and preserve the environment.

In this connection, an awareness meeting was held here with Sailen Borkataki, the president of the youth club in the chair. Jiban Bora, Principal of Jamuguri HSS, Moti Kumar Newar, GDC (Gorkha Development Council) executive member, Jayanta Bora, president of Uttar Shilabandha GP addressed the gathering.
