GUWAHATI, June 9 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today laid emphasis on strengthening the process of revenue collection for accelerating the pace of States progress.

Sonowal, who was addressing a high-level review meeting with officers of the Finance and Sales Tax Departments also laid stress on initiating effective measures to ensure the proper flow of the revenue amounts to the State exchequer and to identify new sources of revenue, said an official press release.

Making a reference to the desire of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to develop North East region into an organic hub, Sonowal asked the officers to prepare programmes for setting up organic hubs in the State so that new horizons of development could be opened in the State.

He also directed the officers to prepare wide-ranging project reports to strengthen the financial condition of the farmers by enhancing agricultural and horticultural produce, bamboo production, etc., and thus attract the young generation towards the agricultural sector. For that purpose, he underlined the need to identifying the potential areas of each of the sectors through surveys.

The Chief Minister also told the officers to identify industries, which would accelerate the economic growth of the State without affecting the ecological balance.

The Chief Minister also laid emphasis on the need to study the procurement of eggs, milk and products made from outside the State. If procurement of these items from outside could be stopped, this will pave the way for skill development of the States youth and their employment.
