Sonowal visits Kamakhya

GUWAHATI, June 19 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today visited the Kamakhya Temple to oversee the preparedness for the forthcoming Ambubachi Mela.

The Chief Minister inspected the arrangements made for the pilgrims coming from different parts of India and abroad. He asked the officials to ensure all sorts of arrangements in respect of accommodation, drinking water and sanitation for the pilgrims. He said the State, true to its rich tradition of according highest respect for visitors since ages, would keep up the tradition on a constant high by welcoming the thousands of pilgrims during the five-day Ambubachi Mela beginning June 22.

He appealed to the people as well as the pilgrims flocking to the temple and its peripheral areas to maintain cleanliness in the true spirit of the �Swacch Bharat Mission�.

Sonowal also asked Director General of Police, Mukesh Sahay to ensure a full-proof security apparatus in and around the Shakti shrine.

Earlier, Sonowal offered puja and paid obeisance to Goddess Kamakhya for peace, prosperity and amity in the State. He also visited the camp set up at the Sonaram Higher Secondary School playground to oversee the facilities put in place for the pilgrims.
