Sonowal to open several schemes in Goalpara today

GOALPARA, Nov 19 - The district administration here is gearing up for Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal�s official visit on Wednesday.

According to sources, the Chief Minister will inaugurate several development projects and lay foundation stones of many important schemes in Goalpara district before addressing a mammoth rally at the Golapara College field during his visit.

Sources said that Sonowal is scheduled to lay foundation stones of community radio station at Goalpara College to be set up by the district administration and also of the ambitious project under City Infra Development Fund (CIDF) which includes schemes like development of Bihutoli field, construction of approach road of KV, Bhalukdubi and widening and improvement of the road from ASTC Point to Boro Bazar, proposed development of Kashimitra Pukhuri, construction of swimming pool and multipurpose indoor stadium at the DN Singha Stadium,Golapara and renovation of the Community Centre at Bapujinagar.

Also, listed for inauguration during the Chief Minister�s visit are the new police station at Agia under the Mission for Overall Improvement of Thana for Responsive Image (MOITRI), Angwadi Model Centre at Budhipara which will have all the composite facilities and the first in the state, Smart Class and Hanging Library at Baladmari High School, solarisation of all the health and wellness centres in the district and that of the plastic shredder machine under Goalpara Municipal Board,GOAL-MART, e-commerce website of the district administration, project under RIDF for construction of RCC bridge at 13 locations and then one-stop centre to support women in distress, a guest house for ASHA workers at Lakhipur, and ceremonial distribution of power tillers under Bringing Green Revolution to Eastern India (BGREI), and award certificate presentation to POSHAN club, distribution of sewing machines funded by ICICI Bank under their corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme and finally launching of Peer Community Learning Initiatives funded by UNICEF.

Official sources informed that the foundation stone-laying ceremony and all the inauguration barring one of two schemes will be held from Goalpara College.

Meanwhile, sources pointed out that the district of Goalpara, one of the 117 aspirational districts in India, has been in the limelight since the last two years for achieving the desired benchmarks in implementation of various projects and receiving various accolades from the central as well as the state governments.

The district is committed to overall socio- economic development and some of the activities worth mentioning for achieving excellent results in the district includes the Education Department for showing excellent performance by increasing the transition rate from lower to upper primary from 94.79% (2017-18) to 99.61% (2018-19) and for the academic session (2018-2018 to 2018-19) transition was 98.87% to 99.375 from upper primary to secondary, innovative initiative under mission Vidya Shakti, including total female literacy programme, construction of roads using green technology by PWD (rural roads) innovation in agriculture activities, including black rice, oil, palm, strawberry cultivation etc, plantation of 12.6 lakh saplings under �Clean and Green Goalpara�, thereby increasing the forest cover from 19.90% to 25% within a period of 19 days in the district, LaQshya Award received by the Health Department for the quality of labour room and maternity operation theatre, certification by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare with platinum certificate (94%) and gold certificate (89%) respectively and also NQAS assessment done, launching of infrastructure snapshot, a convergence Apps by the district administration for monitoring government schemes and programmes in order to address complaints and redress public grievances.

Further, the district has been able to achieve 100 percent electrification under the Saubhagya scheme.
