Sonowal takes charge as AOA president

GUWAHATI, Nov 10 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today took charge as the president of the Assam Olympic Association (AOA) who got elected to the post unopposed for a period of four years.

Speaking at a meeting held here today, Chief Minister Sonowal said that he is elated and honoured to be elected as the president of AOA. He thanked the members of the AOA for putting their trust in him to lead Assam�s apex sporting body which is in the helm of affairs for the promotion, spread and conduct of sports activities in the state.

Sonowal also reiterated that all the office bearers of the sports body will have to work towards promoting the spirit of �Team Assam� to transform Assam into a hub of sports in the country. Expressing his gratitude to every stake holders of the association, Sonowal called upon everybody to be motivated by the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and put in their best possible efforts to make sports a mass movement by encouraging talents at the grassroots level.

Referring to Prime Minister Modi�s statement of �Kheloge to Khiloge�, Sonowal said that sports has to be made even more popular so that youth living in the remotest part of the State get motivated to take sports as an integral and inseparable aspect of their life. He also reiterated the need of making the AOA a household name so that all the 68 lakh families feel affinity with the association.

Along with him the 68-member committee of Assam Olympic Association also took charge. Joint secretary of Indian Olympic Association who is also the chairman of the ad hoc committee of AOA SM Bali along with a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
