Sonowal stresses on dignity of labour

DOOMDOOMA, Nov 23 - �Contributions of workers in nation building process is immense. But, their contribution was not recognised by previous governments in the State. The present BJP-led State government in its four-and-a-half years of tenure is trying to give due recognition to the labourers in the State,� said Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Addressing a huge gathering on the occasion of 4th Sramik Kalyan Divas organised by the Labour Welfare Department and Tinsukia District Administration in collaboration with Assam Labour Welfare Society to commemorate the birth anniversary of tea tribe leader late Santosh Kumar Toppno at Doomdooma Town Field on Monday afternoon, Sonowal also stressed on dignity of labour.

Chief Minister urged the labourers to reap the benefits of various welfare schemes of the State government for the labourers in the State. He also urged upon the labourers to educate their children stating that to attain the goal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi�s �Aatmanirbhar Bharat�, India needs a skilled and educated labour force.

Stating the contributions of Doomdooma towards the growth of tea industry in the State, Sonowal said that Doomdooma town, which had already completed 100 years, was set up by the British rulers to facilitate the tea gardens in the surrounding areas. He also said that it is because of the hard work of the labourers, the tea industry has flourished in this part of the State. He urged upon the tea workers to maintain peace and harmony in the society as well as in their personal lives.

Sonowal also released the souvenir Sramik published on the occasion under the editorship of Bimal Burhagohain and Rajen Suri. He also presented the awards, felicitations and recognition to various industries, individuals and labourers for their contributions in their respective fields. Earlier, the Commissioner of Labour Welfare Department, Sajad Zaman Hazarika delivered the welcome address. The programme was also attended by Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, Rameshwar Teli, State minister for Labour and Tea Tribes Welfare Sanjay Kishan, Minister of State with Independent charge Jogen Mohan, Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah, Rajyya Sabha member Kamakhya Prasad Tassa, MLAs Binod Hazarika, Prashanta Phukan, Bhaskar Sharma, Bolin Chetia, Rituparna Baruah, Naren Sonowal, ACMS general secretary Rupesh Gowala, among others.
