Sonowal promises boost to women entrepreneurship

GUWAHATI, Jan 29 - To give women�s entrepreneurship a boost, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has announced commendation and cash awards for three successful woman entrepreneurs who achieve success by virtue of their sheer diligence. These awards will be given annually.

Speaking on the opening day of a two-day �Assam Women Entrepreneurs� Conclave� at NEDFi House here this evening, Chief Minister Sonowal said the State government, in a bid to encourage woman entrepreneurs, would acknowledge their success by giving cash awards of Rs 5 lakh, Rs 3 lakh and Rs 2 lakh respectively to the best three performers. He also said that the State government would channelise the skills of the womenfolk of Assam using latest technology and give a fillip to their entrepreneurial skills.

He also said that the State government is always with the woman entrepreneurs and would always help them for sustainable development of society. Sonowal also said that appropriate planning coupled with scientific approaches and honest and hard labour would lead to a prosperous Assam. He appealed to the woman entrepreneurs to keep working for their empowerment and development of Assam.

Sonowal also said that the government would provide assistance to set up women�s hubs and clusters in all the districts of the State, like the one planned to be built at Bamunimaidan here.

The Chief Minister felicitated three woman entrepreneurs in recognition to their success in their businesses. He also inaugurated an exhibition organised on the occasion.

Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary who was also present on the occasion, said his ministry is doing everything possible to promote women�s empowerment in the State. He also said that in response to the Chief Minister�s announcement of setting up a women�s hub in Guwahati, his ministry would complete all necessary modalities for the same.

The conclave, being organised by the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship, today saw participation of woman entrepreneurs from across various sectors.
