GUWAHATI, May 24 - The first Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led alliance Ministry in Assam headed by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was sworn in this afternoon in presence of a host of political heavyweights from across the country, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
There was huge euphoria among the supporters and well wishers of the BJP and alliance partners as they flocked to the venue from all parts of the State to witness the historic event.
Assam Governor PB Acharya administered the oath of office and secrecy here at the College of Veterinary College playground at Khanapara at around 4.30 pm.
Apart from Sonowal, 10 Ministers (including two Ministers of State with independent charge) were sworn in. Two members each from BJP�s alliance partners the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland Peoples� Front (BPF) were among the Ministers who took oath.
The legislators who were sworn in as Ministers include Himanta Biswa Sarma (BJP), Atul Bora (AGP), Pramila Rani Brahma (BPF), Parimal Suklabaidya (BJP), Chandra Mohan Patowary (BJP), Keshab Mahanta (AGP), Ranjit Dutta (BJP), Rihon Daimary (BPF).
Those administered oath of office and secrecy as the Ministers of State (independent charge) were Naba Kumar Doley and Pallav Lochan Das.
Earlier today, Sonowal handed over the list of 11 Cabinet Ministers to the Governor for the latter�s approval.
Apart from BJP national president Amit Shah, the oath-taking ceremony was also attended by host of dignitaries, including former deputy Prime Minister LK Advani and a host of Union Ministers, including Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu besides senior Ministers like M Venkaiah Naidu, Nitin Gadkari, Ram Vilas Paswan, Jitendra Singh and Anant Kumar.
