Sonowal lays foundation of engg college

BONGAIGAON, Sept 14 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal laid the foundation stone of an engineering college at Sanyasi hillock in Jelkajhar area on Thursday amid heavy downpour and assured the local people to make this institution a world renowned one.

In his address, Sonowal said his government would develop this engineering college with modern infrastructure and for this, he asked for cooperation from the residents of the neighbouring villages � Jelkajhar, Mulagaon, Barsangaon, Deuripara and Bakhrapara � for developing it.

He also assured the people to make the institution, which would be built at a cost of Rs 56 crore in a 45 bigha campus on the Sanyasi hillock, a world renowned one in the future.

Local MLA and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Phani Bhusan Choudhury said that during the Congress rule, nothing was done for setting up of the college despite repeated demands by the local people and it was the Bharatiya Janata Party government which had granted the institution.

The All Koch Rajbongshi Students� Union urged the Chief Minister to name the college either after �Maharaj Naranarayan� or �Bir Chilarai�.

Sonowal and Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya, who was also present in the ceremony, assured the students� group and the local people of considering their proposal.

Tourism Minister Chandan Brahma spoke about the possibilities of developing a medical college at the Bongaigaon Civil Hospital campus.

Education Minister Bhattacharya promised to complete the construction of the college within the next 30 months.

Deputy Commissioner Babulal Sharma gave the vote of thanks at the end of the open meeting.
