Sonowal launches �Amar Alohi� scheme

GUWAHATI, Sept 28 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal formally declared open the dwelling units constructed under the first phase of the ambitious �Amar Alohi� scheme at a function held at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra here on Friday evening to mark observance of World Tourism Day.

Altogether 28 such dwelling units in different parts of the State were declared open to make tourists enjoy comfortable homestay and Assamese hospitality.

At the same programme, Chief Minister Sonowal unveiled a logo to globally promote the Raas festival held at Nalbari and Majuli along with other places of the State.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said it is a matter of pride and prestige that this World Tourism Day is being celebrated taking India as the host country. He also expressed enthusiasm that World Tourism Day is being celebrated on the theme �Tourism and jobs, a better future for all�.

Chief Minister Sonowal further said that tourism is an industry which has the potential to give employment to many. Stating that Assam is full of tourism potential in the fields of nature, culture, etc., he added that the State can transform itself into one of the major tourist destinations in the world.

He further emphasised the need to develop monsoon tourism in the State. �Extensive use of digital tools, development of infrastructure and appointment of brand ambassadors have led to the enhanced inflow of tourists both foreign and native into Assam. The tour operators can also play an important role in promoting tourism in Assam. In view of the Act East Policy and emergence of Guwahati as the gateway to the South East Asian nations, tourism, especially tea tourism, medical tourism and wildlife tourism have become a new sensation especially among the people of ASEAN countries,� he mentioned.

ATDC Chairman Jayanta Malla Baruah, Vice Chairman Nabadeep Kalita and Principal Secretary Rajesh Prasad also spoke on the occasion.
