Sonowal inaugurates 9 MW Myntring hydroelectric project in Karbi Anglong
DIPHU, Feb 24 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today inaugurated the 9 MW Myntring small Hydro Electric Power Project stage-I at Terenglangso, in the presence of Assam Power Minister Topon Kumar Gogoi and a host of dignitaries. In the inaugural ceremony which was held at Serdihun Aklam, BSA Stadium complex, Baithalangso in West Karbi Anglong district Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Tuliram Ronghang and his cabinet colleges were present.
Assam Power Generation Corporation Limited (APGCL) has commissioned this project tapping the flow of river Myntring at its upper course, informed Vinod Kumar Pipersenia, Chairman APGCL. Sonowal formally inaugurated the project by switching on the device at the power house of the project.
It may be mentioned here that the APGCL constructed Stage-I and Stage-II of 8 MW hydro electric project on Myntring River in Myntring (Terenglangso) in West Karbi Anglong district. The Stage-I plant was set up with a capacity of 2�3.0 MW while, the Stage-II was constructed for production of 1.5�1.5 3MW.
The Chief Minister after inaugurating the project extended his thanks to the people of Karbi Anglong district for extending their cooperation in making the project. He stated that there is a lot of prospect in this district for generation of hydropower which is essential for industrialisation. He mentioned that educated youths of this district will be benefited once the natural resources are properly harnessed and utilised for public welfare.
Meanwhile, the Autonomous State Demand Committee�s spokesperson has said that the Assam Power Generation Corporation Ltd (APGCL) is yet to compensate the farmers for 233 bighas of agricultural land that has been acquisitioned for construction of the project. �The APGCL has covered 233 bighas of cultivable land but the company is yet to compensate for the loss of the cultivable land of local farmers. The matter is still pending in Gauhati High Court.�
It may be recalled here that previous Congress government while taking up construction of Small Hydro Electric project, Stage I of 6 MW capacity at Myntring (Terenglangso) without compensating the farmers for their land. The foundation was laid by the then Power Minister Prodyut Bordoloi on March 3, 2014, it added.
