Sonowal hails Bhupen Hazarika award winner Yeshe Thongchi

GUWAHATI, June 15 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal congratulated noted writer Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi on being nominated for the prestigious Sarhad�s 5th Bhupen Hazarika National Award-2017.

Sonowal congratulated Thongchi over phone for the award and wished him all success in his future endeavours.

With an aim at creating a strong bond between Maharashtra and the North East, Sarhad has been presenting the Bhupen Hazarika Award since 2012. On earlier occasions it conferred the award on filmmaker Jahnu Barua, noted theatre personality Ratan Thiyam, senior journalist Samudragupta Kashyap and singer, musician Lou Majaw.

Hailing Sarhad for choosing Thongchi of Arunachal Pradesh for the award, Sonowal said giving the award to Dorjee is an honour conferred on a person who has written about a dozen novels and numerous short stories and plays, all in Assamese.
