By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 7 - The ruling BJP is hoping to win at least 12 seats from Assam in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said here today.

Addressing a meeting of BJP members of various municipal boards, town committees and other Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) from across the State, Sonowal said the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought about all-round development in the country.

At least 12 seats from Assam that is our target. To achieve that, we all will have to work hard, said Sonowal, exhorting the BJP cadres to spread out among the masses and tell the people about the work carried out by the Modi government during the past four years and nine months in power.

The Chief Minister said that BJPs elected representatives in ULBs and the cadres in the urban areas have a special responsibility to make the people aware about the schemes implemented by the NDA regime and also in mobilising support for the ruling party. He added that towns and urban areas play a leading role in building public opinion among all segments.

Our cadres will have to go to the masses, spread the ideas and message of the BJP among them and highlight the positive works undertaken by the Modi government, said the Chief Minister.

Mentioning the various schemes and social welfare measures adopted by the NDA government, Sonowal said that all segments of the Indian society have benefited from them.

The Congress regimes merely gave slogans. Congress lacked sincerity Modi has implemented what was promised. The Modi government has taken India on the path of development taking all sections of society along, irrespective of caste, creed or religion... The NDA government has brought about transparency in administration of the country... The GDP growth now is much higher than what it was during the time of UPA government. Honesty and commitment are the two great qualities of Prime Minister Modi, Sonowal said.

The Chief Minister added that his government at Dispur has been prompt in delivering services to the citizens of Assam. We have also exposed the misdeeds of the previous State government led by Congress, Sonowal said. There were major scams during the period of the previous State government, he said, and pointed to the alleged prevalence of fake job cards, bogus ration cards and lists of ghost beneficiaries of the midday meal scheme.

Sonowal said that the NDA government at the Centre has taken up steps to improve connectivity in Assam and the North East, besides taking steps for increasing production capacities of refineries in the State and to construct new bridges over the Brahmaputra river.

Speaking on the occasion, State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass called upon the party cadres to get ready for the parliamentary elections.

BJPs Assam in-charge Mahendra Singh said the Central govt has hiked the budgetary allocation to the NE by 21 per cent, sanctioned new projects for the region and taken up schemes to boost connectivity.
