PATACHARKUCHI, Aug 2 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal visited the residence of martyred Assam Rifles jawan Pranay Kalita at Ghatbar village in Bajali subdivision of Barpeta district today and handed over a cheque of Rs 20 lakh to the ill-fated widow Jumi Kalita as ex gratia from the state government.

During his interaction with the widow of the martyr and other family members, he expressed deep condolence and offered floral tribute before the portrait of the brave soldier.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by MP Dilip Saikia, Transport and Industry Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary and MLA Ashok Sarma.

It may be recalled that three Assam Rifles personnel were killed and five others injured in an ambush in Manipur�s Chandel district near the Indo-Myanmar border on Thursday.

A patrol party of Assam Rifles was ambushed by suspected militants by triggering an IED explosion followed by firing at Khongtal area under Chakpikarong Police Station around 6.30 pm on Wednesday last.
