Sonowal calls for discipline, hardwork

DIBRUGARH, Sept 15 � Union Minister of State for Sports, Youth Affairs, Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Sarbananda Sonowal today called upon the student community to be disciplined and hard working in order to achieve goal in life.

Sonowal said that discipline and hard work were two fundamental ideals, which if adopted leads to achieving success at every step in life. The Union Minister was addressing the students after receiving a felicitation accorded by the DHSK College Alumni Association at the Shrimanta Shankardev Sabhakaksha at the college premises here today.

Sonowal told the students that for the society to make sustainable progress, the citizens and particularly the student community must develop work culture in every sphere. In this context he told the students that Prime Minister Narendra Modi works eighteen hours a day from 6 am to 12 midnight and that the students would do good not just for themselves but at the same time to the society as well, if they emulated the example set by the Prime Minister.

It may be mentioned here that Sarbananda Sonowal was a student of the DHSK College, graduating with honours in English in 1984. Thereupon he joined the Dibrugarh University to pursue his master�s where actually his interest in public affairs assumed a more active dimension.

The felicitation function was presided over by Kumud Ranjan Das, the working president of the DHSK College Alumni Association, while Kalyan Baruah, former principal of the college was present as the chief gueston the occasion.

A neatly decorated felicitation plaque was also presented to the minister by the association which was read out by Pratik Choudhury, associate professor, department of English of the college. The DHSK College students� union, the study centre of the KK Handique State Open University located in the college, the DHSK College unit of the Assam College Teachers� Association and also the non-teaching staff of the college accorded felicitation to the minister. Meanwhile, the college authorities reportedly discussed various aspects of development of sports infrastructure in the college with the minister.
