JORHAT, May 19 - After winning a sweeping victory in Majuli by a margin of 18,923 votes, BJPs chief ministerial candidate Sarbananda Sonowal said that along with the allied parties his government would fulfil the promises of solving the major problems of the State, besides finding a solution to the decades-long flood and erosion problem of the river island.

Election officials concerned stated that 49,602 voters cast their valid mandate in favour of Sonowal while his immediate contender Congress Rajib Lochan Pegu got 30,679 votes.

A jubilant Sonowal said that Prime Minister Narendra Modis popular slogan Sab Ka Sath Sab Ka Vikash impressed him a lot and he is deeply committed to serve the people of the State with the motto of all-round development.

Paying gratitude to the people of the State, he thanked the voters for giving a chance to the BJP and its allied parties to serve the people for a term of five years in the State, which was ruled by the Congress for three consecutive terms since 2001.

I am giving credit of my victory to the venerated Satradhikars, the voters of the river island who had been working hard to elect me as their representative to the State Assembly. We are committed to work for the all-round development of the people of State irrespective of religion, culture, language and other differences, said Sonowal in a press conference at Majuli.

Asked whether he had prepared any plan for protecting the river-island from massive flood and erosion, Sonowal said that plans will be prepared after proper discussion and analysis for effective implementation.

Stressing the importance of the implementation of Vision Document, Sonowal sought the help of the civil society, media and all the people concerned to work for manifold development of the State in near future.
