Sonowal bats for proper education for a disciplined society

BISWANATH CHARIALI, March 14 - �A society becomes disciplined when an educational institution grows. An educational institution shares the light of wisdom and enhances the social, cultural and spiritual values. We cannot become strong without education.�

This was stated by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal during the concluding function of the silver jubilee celebration of Kalabari College, Gohpur in Biswanath district on Friday.

Attending the programme as the chief guest, Sonowal said, �We have to showcase the efficiency and skills of the Assamese people to the people of the world and it is possible only through proper education.�

Laying stress on the role needed to be played by the guardians, the Chief Minister said people need to give equal importance to sports and culture on the sidelines of formal education. �A competitive mind is very much essential for students since their childhood in these days of competition, and teachers and the guardians have to play a major part in this respect,� he said.

Sonowal expressed gratitude to the people of 52 villages of Kalabari who had played a major role in establishing the college 25 years back. He assured all possible help for the development of infrastructure of the college.

In his welcome speech, Gohpur MLA Utpal Borah narrated the history and also spoke about the problems of the college.

The programme was presided over by educationist Khagen Goswami. Madhavdev University Vice Chancellor Dr Dibakar Chandra Deka, famous inventor Uddhab Bharali, Bihpuria MLA Debananda Hazarika, Biswanath Deputy Commissioner Dhruva Jyoti Das were also present during the programme. A souvenir Rupali Khiriki was also released on the occasion.
