Sonowal all set to take over as AOA chief

GUWAHATI, Oct 26 - As expected Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is all set to become president of the Assam Olympic Association (AOA) as he is the lone candidate to submit nomination for the post of the apex sports body of the State.

Nominations for 22 posts were filed yesterday and returning officer Bijon Mahajan today announced the final list of the candidates after completing the process of scrutiny.

Altogether 28 candidates, including ministers Siddhartha Bhattacharya, Atul Bora and Phani Bhusan Choudhury, MP Topon Kumar Gogoi, MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita, among others, have filed for 10 posts of vice president. Anup Choudhury, Bhaskar Das, L Hemanta Singh, Lakhya Konwar, Mriganka Barman, Nababuddin Ahmed and Raj Kakati have filed nomination for one general secretary�s post. For the treasurer�s post five candidates � Bishnu Ram Nunisa, Gautam Choudhury, Hemanta Kr Kalita, Raj Kakati, Tapan Kr Das have filed nomination. Likewise, 13 and 14 candidates have filed nominations for four and five posts of joint secretary and assistant secretary respectively.

President will nominate 21 executive members.

The last date for withdrawal of nomination is October 30 and the election will take place on November 10.
