Sonitpur unit joins Congress Statewide protest

By Correspondent

TEZPUR, Feb 26 - As part of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committees State-wise protest programme staged on Wednesday in every subdivision and district headquarters protesting the curtailing of Central funds and abolition of special backward state status, the partys Sonitpur unit staged a dharna in front of the DC office here.

The protest programme was led by president of the Assam Pradesh Youth Congress, Hiranya Bhuyan. On the other hand, in a press conference held here on Tuesday evening, senior Congress leader and former Education Minister, Ripun Bora alleged that the BJP has failed to implement any of its commitment made to the people before the Lok Sabha elections.

Referring to the recent JNU incident, the former Education Minister also alleged that the BJP is trying to impart religious politics in every educational institution across the country. Criticizing the saffron party, he added that the recent JNU episode was nothing but a part of political aggression of the BJPs student wing, the ABVP.

He said that the JNU students were arrested on false charges of going against the country. Kanhaiya Kumars arrest is also a political conspiracy by the BJP, which has been understood by the common people. For this reason, students in Assam will teach Sarbananda Sonowal a lesson in the coming days. Bora also said that before coming to power, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured that their Government will return black money within 100 days and an amount of Rs 15 lakh will be deposited in the account of every Indian citizen, but with the passage of time, all these commitments have been proven to be false.

Criticizing the Chatia MLA who recently joined the BJP from the AGP, Bora said that he never betrayed his party like Padma Hazarika who has left the AGP only for his political benefit. After the Rajya Sabha elections, Hazarika was interested in joining the Congress, but later he joined the BJP, he added.
