BISWANATH CHARALI, May 27 � In view of public grievances related to the construction work of Rs 97 crore Biswanath-Panpur GEO bag dyke on the embankment of river Brahmaputra, Lalit Gogoi, Deputy Commissioner, Sonitpur visited the embankment site near Biswanath Ghat in Biswanath Chariali to take stock of the situation there on Tuesday. Pallav Gopal Jha, SDO(C) Biswanath also accompanied the DC.
Later, Gogoi questioned the officials and engineers of the Water Resource department and the contractors regarding the alleged discrepancies in construction work of the embankment and sought clarifications on several issues related to it from them. He cautioned the departmental officials and contractors against any discrepancy and negligence on their part. The DC also ordered them to maintain quality in construction work and materials strictly.
The DC Sonitpur and the SDO (C) Biswanath also visited Kumalia gaon panchayat under Biswanath Development Block to personally verify the implementation of IAY scheme there. After receiving some serious public complaints alleging anomalies in the scheme in that GP recently, the DC had decided to conduct the inspection by himself. Meanwhile, an official press release received here stated that Gogoi has expressed his dissatisfaction over the irregularities and lapses in implementation of the scheme to the BDO, Biswanath and GP functionaries present there. He issued several instructions to them to remove these lapses immediately.
