GUWAHATI, July 30 � Sonitpur district team emerged champions in the State Cadet, Junior and U-21 Karate Championship which concluded at SAI Complex here last evening. The championship was organised by United Karate-Do Association, Assam where 200 karatekas from 16 districts took part.

Sonitpur won 5 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze medals in the meet to stand top in the medal tally. Kokrajhar came second in the medal tally with 5 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals. Guwahati was the third team in the championship clinching 4 gold, 3 silver and 10 bronze medals.

Noted litereture Dr Promod Ch Bhattacharyya was the chief guest in the closing function. He also released the souvenir which was brought to mark the event.

Sports scribes Subodh Malla Baruah and Saurav Bora were felicitated by the organisers for being elected as secretary general and executive committee member of the Sports Journalist Federation of India.
