Sonaullahs detention due to defective detection system

By Staff REPORTER

GUWAHATI, June 6 - Members of a delegation that visited the Kalahikash-based ancestral house of Kargil War veteran Sonaullah, who has now been lodged in a detention camp, on Tuesday last, have described the ex-Indian Army officials detention as the result of a defective detection process to determine foreign nationals in the State.

The delegation demanded immediate abolition of the skewed foreigner detection process and immediate release of Sonaullah.

In a statement, the members of the delegation alleged that lakhs of genuine citizens and voters have been made to undergo traumatic experiences of harassment due to this skewed process.

Around 50 people have committed suicide due to the harassment resulting from this process. Comparing the detention camps with the Nazi concentration camps, they demanded that the State abolish the detention camp system and replace the foreigners tribunals with an administrative process with the scope of monitoring by the people.

The delegation visited the ancestral house of Sonaullah under the joint initiative of the Forum for Social Harmony, Sanmilita Janagosthiya Sangram Samiti, Swaraj Asam and AISA.
