SONARI, Oct 24 - Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Nabanita Handique won the Sonari constituency bypoll defeating Congress candidate Sushil Kumar Suri by a margin of 15,332 votes.
Nabanita Handique secured 66,449 votes while Sushil Kumar Suri got 51,117 votes.
4,208 votes were polled in favour of "NOTA".
Talking to The Assam Tribune, Nabanita Handique said that the victory is due to Prime Minister�s agenda -"Sabka Sath Sabka Vikash".
She claimed that she would devote her time for the welfare of the people of the constituency irrespective of party line.
On the other hand, Sushil Kumar Suri said he would render his service for the poor people of the society, especially for the tea tribe.
He also thanked the party workers for their support.
