Sonari LAC to witness straight fight between BJP-Cong

SONARI, Oct 19 - Campaigning for byelection in the 106 Sonari Legislative Assembly Constituency closed at 5 pm today.

Both the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress have left no stone unturned to woo the voters. Sonari LAC will witness a straight fight between the candidates of two national parties on October 21 bypoll for the first time in its history as the top leaders of both the parties campaigned for their candidates.

In the history of the by-election in Assam, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal addressed three rallies, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma addressed three meetings and took part in the �roadshow�. Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharyya addressed two meetings, Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary addressed two meeting, BJP State president Ranjit Dass addressed two meetings besides almost all the BJP�s MLA of upper Assam campaigned for the BJP candidate Nabanita Handique while many ex-ministers and former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi campaigned for Congress candidate Sushil Suri.

Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma on Friday said �giving vote to Congress means getting ready to accept a Chief Minister of Bangladeshi origin�. He addressed election rallies at Towkok, Sapekhati and Borhat. Accusing the Congress of creating vote banks to rule the State and the country, he said Congress did nothing to uplift these communities. Stressing upon �sabka sath sabka bikash�, Sarma appealed the gathering to vote for a secured Assam and for all round development.

Talking to ANN Service, Jorhat MP Topon Kumar Gogoi who resigned as MLA of Sonari LAC after getting elected to Parliament said that he was very confident of the victory of the BJP candidate as the margin of votes in Sonari LAC segment of Jorhat parliamentary constituency in the last Lok Sabha election was more than 35,000 votes and people will vote for development.

Meanwhile the district administration is ready for the October 21 bypolls and has taken elaborate measures to conduct it in a peaceful manner.
